Spook, a son of
Baby, played Lassie
for a short time
but is not considered
an "official" Lassie
as Rudd replaced him
with another Baby son who
carried on the
genetic line.
Lassie II, Pal's heir, was the only descendant
of the Weatherwax line of Lassie dogs who kept
the name of Lassie as a stage name and his
call name. He appeared in the original
TV series between 1954 and 1959,
both with Jeff (Tommy Rettig)
and later Timmy (Jon Provost).
*The program won an Emmy Award in 1955
for Best Children's Series.
Welcome to our Lassie page! Bob's association with the nine generations
of Lassie collies, bred and trained first by Rudd and then by Bob, represents
a relationship he deeply treasures. A little known fact is that Bob and Pal were actually born on the same day -- June 4 -- but one year apart: Pal in 1940 and Bob in 1941. (The music you're listening to here is an old
Scottish folk song titled "Sweet Lass Of The Highlands"). Enjoy!
Pal - the Collie who started it all!
Owned, trained, and loved by Rudd Weatherwax, he was
the original dog who played Lassie in the
Oscar nominated 1943 MGM Technicolor film production of
Eric Knight's best selling book, Lassie Come Home,
as well as six more Lassie movies that followed.
Baby was the son of
Lassie Junior, and
Pal's grandson. He was the third
in the line of
Weatherwax Collies to portray
Lassie, working alongside
Timmy (Jon Provost) and later
Forest Ranger Corey Stewart
(Robert Bray)
in the TV series.
Mire, another Baby son,
replaced Spook (who substituted in
the role of Lassie for six months)
to become the"official"
fourth generation Lassie.
Mire worked on the forest ranger
episodes, and was the dog who
starred in the very popular
"all animal" programs.
Hey Hey was the son of Mire.
He took the role of Lassie V,
and is the collie who
finished out the twenty year run
of the Lassie TV series
in 1974.
Boy was the son of Hey Hey and the
sixth generation Weatherwax Lassie.
He brought the role back to the
movie screen by starring in the
Oscar nominated film,
The Magic Of Lassie, in 1978.
"The Old Man" was the call name of
Boy's son who became the
seventh generation Weatherwax Lassie.
He was still a youngster when Rudd died,
and the reins were turned over to Bob.
Fittingly, when Bob finished his
training, he went on to bring this dog
back to television in the 1989 series
The New Lassie,
which ran for three seasons.
Howard was the son of "The Old Man"
selected by Bob Weatherwax to
represent the eighth generation Lassie.
Howard made numerous appearances in public
and on television with Bob at the helm,
and is probably best remembered
for starring in the 1994 movie,
Lassie, Best Friends Are Forever.

Laddie is the son of Howard
selected by Bob Weatherwax to
represent the ninth generation Lassie.
Laddie was born knowing he was special.
Bob took one look at him and knew
this dog was his next star.
Laddie represented the Lassie icon for four years.
He was introduced at the Louise Mandrell Theater in
Tennessee as Lassie IX, and made several personal appearances including trade shows, and the annual
New Years Day Tourament of Roses Parade.
He also starred in a GE television
commercial still viewable on You Tube.
